Inspiration In the last posting we discussed how Jesus was our example for our physical world, but we needed some “Inspiration,” for our spiritual world. Let us start looking at what God has provided for that. In the dictionary: Inspiration is an inspiring (to have an animating effect upon to influence , stimulate or impel creative or effective effort. to cause, guide, communicate or motivate by divine influence. to arouse or produce (a thought or feeling) as kindness inspires love). an inspiring or being inspired mentally or emotionally. an inspiring influence; any stimulus to creative thought or action. a divine influence upon human beings resulting in writing, or in action, as of a saint. As you will see this will fit what we will cover exactly.
We start to see these effects in our childhood as we are inspired to do many of the creative and special things we do. Like being outstanding at singing, or art, or being a loving person. Many people have chosen to call this effect the Holy Spirit. I shall alternate using this or Inspiration. Let us start by making a very small introduction to this area.
We see this taking place when we receive a temporary and spontaneous increase of physical, spiritual, or mental strength. This is a extraordinary and supernatural occurrence to prepare a person for a special task. This effect will come upon God’s turned-over-lives-control people for any special tasks He will give them (like these postings). We should also ask for Inspiration as we face our daily problems as well as life’s major challenges.
You must allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with new attitudes and motives so tat you can improve the quality of your life. Jesus explained that we cannot control the work of the Holy Spirit. He works in ways we cannot predict or understand. Just as you should not be controlling your physical life, so you should not try to control your spiritual life. It is a gift from your lover – God.
Sometimes we feel that if the Holy Spirit leads us, it will always be “besides quiet waters”. But that is not necessarily true. He led Jesus into the desert for a long and difficult time of testing, and he may also lead us into difficult situations for training purposes. To make that all important decision to love God or myself. But when we face trials, we should first make sure that we haven’t brought them upon ourselves through unwise choices. If not, we should ask God to strengthen us for our test. Finally we need to be careful to follow faithfully wherever the Holy Spirit leads us.
This brings us to taking a strong look at our attitudes. Jesus gave us some excellent suggestions to act on. We shall start on these in the next posting.
